MONTHS without updating.... Jesus. >.>
Well, I got two YnM reviews coming up, one good, one bad.
Series: Yami no Matsuei
Title: Promise
Author: apocalipticoblivion
Genre: Romance/Angst (I'd say melodrama too)
Rating: Pg-13
Warnings: Overly melodramatic. Seriously...
Couple (if applicable): Tsuzuki/Hisoka
Plot: 5/10 - All right, I like angst like everyone else does. But when you combined it with something that's overly melodramatic, it's a turn off and that's what this fic does. Basically, Tsuzuki starts having a 'nightmare' about Hisoka and the fic shows how he deals with it. It's just... too melodramatic and the dream sequence repeats throughout most of the story.
Writing: 7/10 - The writing isn't terrible. There's a few things that can be brushed up upon, like the overuse of ellipses (I have that problem too. :D) and there are a few sentences that need rewording (Like: "But, Tsuzuki blocked out the image by looking elsewhere than Hisoka's eyes." It should be 'other than', but even that sounds odd), but other than that, it's pretty decent.
Characterization: 3/10 - Tsuzuki suffers from overdrama. Yes, Tsuzuki would probably be really upset over the dream, but he's most likely to hide the fact from everyone, even if it's about Hisoka dying. Hisoka is a bit... too tame in this fanfic too without explaination. As for Tatsumi and Watari... they seem a bit off too, and I highly doubt Tatsumi would let Tsuzuki and Hisoka off from work like he did too.
Negativities: Too melodramatic and runs a bit like a soap opera.
Summary: Basically, Tsuzuki has a dream about Hisoka dying and flips out about it. Eventually, Hisoka picks up on about it and Hisoka comforts Tsuzuki, saying he won't die, etc etc.
Overall - 5/10 - The writing itself isn't bad, but it's not a Tsuzuki/Hisoka fic I would recommend. The melodrama of the fic destroys what could be good writing.
