kirakins drabble challenge. She said write a fic on any Final Fantasy. Of course, I picked FF6. This is set WAY in the beginning of the game, after Locke and Celes escape South Figaro and are heading to Narshe.
AND I had to base this off a semi-script, since it was so long since I picked up a FF game. :X
And this is in a weird format too. X_x
Corny ending, but I couldn't think of any other way to end it. X_x;;
"Why?"
The question came unexpected, tearing the uncomfortable silence between the two. The young man looked over his shoulder to the one who voiced the question, his brown eyes blinking in puzzlement.
"Why what?"
Blue eyes gazed into his own, as if saying, 'You know why'. She didn't repeat the question, instead, waited for an answer.
A shrug. "Do I need a reason?"
"Logically speaking, yes," was the cold reply to the question.
Silence. A clink of a rock in the distance. "You remind me of someone from my past. In a similar situation. Back then, I just ran away..."
"So this time, you decided not to?"
"Yes. Watch your step here, the ground is rocky."
No reply.
"We're making good time. We should be in Narshe within a day."
"...I don't understand you."
Silence again.
"You're being illogical. You'd save a woman you don't even know, who is supposed to be your sworn enemy, because she happened to be in a similar situation as in your past? She could decide to turn on you and kill you. Or make you her prisoner and try to get information out of you. Helping a person who is your enemy could get you killed."
Pause. "If I knew you were going to kill me, I would know."
"How?"
Brown eyes locked onto blue. "Looking into your eyes. I've seen the eyes of people who wanted to kill me before. I don't see that look in your eyes."
"How do you know I'm not pretending?"
"Because the eyes don't pretend. People's words can lie, people's body language can lie, people's faces can lie. Eyes cannot. They say 'eyes are the window to the soul'. I don't see any deceit in your eyes."
Another pause. "What do you see when you look into my eyes?"
Brown eyes searched blue. "I see someone in need. Someone who saw things and did things and coming to regret. Someone who wants a chance. Someone who wants to help but unsure how."
"Is that your reason for helping me? To give me a chance at redemption?"
Shrug. "I guess... I want to give us both that chance..."
The young man continued walking on towards their destination, not bringing the subject back up. But the young woman had her answer.
'I did it to save both of us...'
