Yami no Matsuei Drabble, Silence

Title: Silence
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Oriya/Hisoka, not really romantical
Genre: General
Warnings: None
Summary: Hisoka comes back to a place he never expected to...
Comments: Hard to write, since I've never written anything about Oriya and hard to think of, but... eh. Drabble for [livejournal.com profile] wolfpilot06, sorry it's not so great. :( Takes place after the 'Tsuzuki rescue' in the Kyoto Arc. (424 words)

He didn't know how long he stared at the building. Or what possessed him to come back to this place. All he had known is that he couldn't stand looking at the white walls of the infirmary any longer.

Or the silence in the room. Before, he would've wished for it. Wished for the silence and the lack of noise around him. Now that he received his wish... It just didn't feel right. So he had told Watari that he was going out for some air...

But why did he come here, of all places?

"How long are you going to stay outside, staring at my restaurant, boy?"

He should be surprised that someone was up so late. He should be surprised that someone was watching him. But for some reason, he felt unnaturally calm.

Shrugging his shoulders and knowing that lying wouldn't do any good, Hisoka answered, "I don't know."

"If you've come to look for him, you will not find him here."

"I didn't come here looking for Muraki, Mibu-san."

"Then why are you here?"

"I told you, I don't know."

Another silence before Oriya asked, "Did you retrieve your place?"

"Yes."

Oriya raised his eyebrow. "But?"

"But... Things... can never be the same between us,” Shaking his head, Hisoka continued on. "He's quieted down a bit after what happened. Before, I would've been thankful for the peace and quiet. But now..."

"The silence bothers you. It's scares you."

Before he knew it, Hisoka found himself nodding. "He's usually so loud. But now, now that he's quieted down..."

"It's not the silence that scares you. It's what the silence implies."

Blinking, Hisoka looked up and asked, "What do you mean by that?"

"You think he's closed himself off from you. You, being used to his old habits, aren't accustomed to his now silent behavior."

Hisoka turned his head away. "I wouldn't doubt if that's how he feels, after what happened."

"But is that how he feels though?"

"I don't know."

Oriya turned towards the KoKakuRou. "You won't find your answers here, boy. The answers you seek are elsewhere." Turning his head, he added, "I will offer you this though. If you ever need to truly escape the noise about you, you are welcome to practice out in the garden. It would be a waste to let your talents stagnate."

Hisoka watched Oriya walk back inside, not knowing what to say. He looked up at the KoKakuRou one last time before he disappeared back into the night, wondering if his partner was awake.
